CAVE QUAKE II
Created by Paul Rajlich, the guy that brought you CAVE DOOM CAVE QUAKE II is an adaptation of the popular PC game QUAKE II. It demonstrates the use of Performer 2.2 in the CAVE environment. In CAVE DOOM, cheesy 3D monsters were created since the PC game made use of 2D sprites for monsters. CAVE QUAKE II features the 3D monsters from the actual game, complete with their animations and sounds. However, the game engine was developed from scratch, specifically for the CAVE. As a result, the application is not a true QUAKE II client. Requirements:The tar file includes a statically linked version of the executable. This means that you do not need Performer 2.2 DSOs in order to run this demo.Controls:During the intro, CAVE QUAKE II displays the controls:Button 1 - hold down to fire Button 2 - hold down to go through walls Button 3 - go back to intro screen or reset after death There are two forms of navigation. In the default mode, the joystick is used for forward and backward translation and for left and right rotation. In the second form of navigation, the joystick is used for forward and backward translation. The wand determines the direction of rotation. To keep from rotating, the wand must be pointed forward at the front wall. After the form of navigation is selected, the game begins.
Installing:Once the tar file is unpacked, you will need to change the scripts in the bin directory to reflect the base directory of the CAVE QUAKE II installation. Also, if audio will be used, the .aud file in the AUD directory will have to be edited to reflect the base directory.
Running:If using audio, Start vss 2.2.cd to the bin directory. Run one of the scripts. Enjoy!
