CAVERNUS Applications

NCSA-related Applications

Custom Visualization Group
This team explores the use of high-performance graphics and virtual reality systems in a variety of applications requiring visual data analysis. Oganizationally, this team reports to both the NCSA Applications Division and VEG.

Caterpillar's Distributed Virtual Reality project

Engineering collaboration system for wide area networks, using live video feeds within a shared virtual environment.

Severe Storm Analysis

A particle advector tool, with a great GUI, for studying simulation data.

Mathematics
... to find, develop, collect and freely provide mathematical graphics instruments for Silicon Graphics and Linux platforms at the University of Illinois and in the Internet community.

NCSA Biomedical Imaging Group - Virtual Bread Crumbs

Started in March of 1994, to explore three dimensional biological datasets.

EVAC: experimentalist's virtual acquisition console
In 1995, we added remote instrument control to the Virtual Bread Crumbs software. EVAC was demonstrated at Supercomputing '95.

Crossing Streets, Education Group
street intersection Studying student's ability to cross streets virtually as well as generalize their virtual learning to actual contexts in selected sites throughout Champaign-Urbana.

Audio Development Group
Information on the audio development group of VEG, and current developments underway.

Flexible Automated Manufacturing Systems
This research from the UIUC Mechanical Engineering Dept. involves developing a software toolkit for configuring Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) in Virtual Reality.

NCSA VR and Education Program for Educators
Teachers from six states are working with NCSA on a year-long program in VR.

UIUC Pablo Research Group,
This Computer Science Department group investigates the interaction of architecture, system software, and applications on massively parallel computer systems.

Alliance-related Applications

ATOC/GAMOT Project Demo at SC '95
The Naval Research Laboratory at Stennis Space Center (NRL-SSC) has one of the leading efforts in computational modelling of the oceans. One of the models currently under development covers the Sea of Japan.

Boston University - Artworld
HipArt's first project is ArtWorld, a collaborative virtual reality environment to which local artists from the Northeast are contributing their ideas and 3D models.
